3D Character Animation Process

3D animation is the talk of the town; its uses range from gaming to architecture & more. Companies frequently use 3D characters to tell interesting stories & promote their products. However, the process is time consuming & labor intensive. Here’s a glimpse at how we produce memorable 3D character animations.

Story and Script

We kick off the 3D project by drafting an engaging script based on the client’s idea and needs. Here, the animation and the story’s purpose are also considered.

Research & Development

This step focuses on the production pipeline and the development of the story. Collecting relevant data & references for the animation video also comes under this step.

Concept Art

Next, Our team develops concepts for how the animation should appear & feel. Here, we lay the foundation of animation by designing the characters, environment, & artwork.

Storyboard

Then, we work on the animatics or storyboard – the last pre-production step. It’s a visual guide for defining still frames and scene-wise shots. Background music and recording voiceovers are also a part of it.

3D Modeling

Following the storyboard, it’s time to turn characters into 3D models using animation software – the process of taking an object and molding it into a completed 3D mesh.

Texturing

After creating 3D objects, we add color and surface properties to the model. It includes applying textures and considering all the fine details.

Rigging & Skinning

This is where we set up the character to walk and talk. Think of it as creating the bone structure through which the 3D object can be distorted and controlled as needed.

Animation

Now comes the step we all wait for. With the help of animatics, our animators put your ideas into motion. This is where the 3D models are made to move in a three dimensional space using animation software.

Special Effects (SFX)

This step deals with adding special and visual effects to enhance a scene. VFX and SFX are powerful storytelling tools and could include imaginary/real elements such as fire, blasts, monsters, etc.

Lighting & Shading

Now comes the step we all wait for. With the help of animatics, our animators put your ideas into motion. This is where the 3D models are made to move in a three dimensional space using animation software.

Rendering

It is the last step of the production pipeline – the act of generating the final render of a scene. Here, we pay special attention to camera angles, lighting choices, and other aspects that affect the final product.

Compositing

Next, all digital elements are compiled to make a believable picture. The renders are brought compositing software to edited, touched up, color-corrected, & addon with 2D & special effects.

Final Editing

It is the last step of the production pipeline – the act of generating the final render of a scene. Here, we pay special attention to camera angles, lighting choices, and other aspects that affect the final product.
